J's Story Shot: Karma
I walked over to my co-worker’s desk, determined to confront her, “Rochelle, you know this is wrong on so many levels right?”I stood over her scowling.“Yes I do, and I don’t care.” She looked over her shoulder at me and smirked.“So you fully intend on presenting my ideas to Kent?” Kent was the VP of our department. She swiveled her chair away from her desk and toward me, crossed her legs and smoothed her A-line dress over her knees. Sitting back she gave me the once over and such a devious look I wanted to smack her. “Yes, and he is going to eat it up just like everyone else did, and that promotion you been lusting after will be all mine’s. Now if you will excuse me I have to go freshen up my makeup so that I’ll look my best while presenting your ideas.” She grabbed her makeup bag off the desk, stood and walked away.It amazed me how only four days ago I thought we were good friends. For over a year we had been lunch buddies and worked together without issue. I never had an inkling that she was using me and waiting for me to come up with a career changing move, so she could steal it. She had been so slick, being my sounding board as I ran my ideas by her. Then on the day she knew I planned to share them with our manager and director, she pounced first in the meeting and wowed them both with my ideas. Now they were in the conference room prepping the VP for Rochelle’s big presentation.I looked around the small office. Everyone was heads down, busy working, with no clue that a great injustice was about to take place against me.I went back to my desk fuming. Looking down the hall to the conference room where they were waiting for Rochelle, I was tempted to storm in and set the record straight. Would they believe me? Was it the professional thing to do?“Wish me luck,” Rochelle, holding her laptop, walked pass my desk into the hallway leading to the conference room.“Rochelle, your—”I called to her.“Not now loser.” She kept walking and I said nothing else. I watched to see if she would make it into the conference room before running into anyone else. She did, so I guess someone in the meeting would tell her her dress was tucked into her panties.I invite you to come along for the read by subscribing below and receiving a free ebook copy of my novella SSMD: So It Begins.
